SteakGuys.com™ is a service that endeavors to provide wily steak enthusiasts with a heads up when it comes to selecting a Steak House dining establishment.  We go out of our way to sample the best - and as a matter of course, the worst - that the world's Steak Houses have to offer.  We do not announce our presence to the proprietors of these establishments, a practice which gives us both editorial and epicurean freedom.  We also do not always limit ourselves to Steak, taking the time to sample Seafood, Wines and Cigars that some of these Steak Houses provide.

When we review a Steak House we naturally look for well prepared steak.  While service matters somewhat, the overall ambiance that a Steak House provides is also a primary factor in our reviews.  A fine Steak House does not have to limit entry to those wearing jackets and ties (but if it does, it must live up to the higher expectation).  A wine list is a must, and the ability to light up a good Cigar afterwards with some fine Port is a splendid way to cap off a pleasurable dining experience (but we no longer fault a Steak House if it prohibits cigar smoking as that is often no longer the decision of the Steak House).

Our ratings in the main ratings section stretch back to the early 1990's.  SteakGuys.com was started as a web service in 1998, however the editors and reviewers have been eating steak for longer than the Internet has been around, so we feel that these pre-Internet visits merit inclusion.  It's possible that some Steak Houses have changed names, locations or are no longer in business.  For that reason, our Top Steak Houses listing only includes Steak Houses that have been visited within the past 5 years.  This list is also limited to the finest of our visits, Steak Houses which have merited a score of 8 or better on our rankings (Excellent or Magnificent!).
